So she won't feel alone in the world of cooking failures...
Shortly after Joshua and I were married, I really wanted tacos for dinner. (I may have been pregnant with Karol at this point as I craved hot spicy foods with him.) We didn't have much in the pantry and it wasn't close to shopping day yet, so I got creative. I knew we had a can of corned beef hash in the pantry and some cheese, salsa and sour cream in the fridge along with a few tortilla shells.
Joshua still reminds me of how I ruined corned beef hash. In my defense, I did find a similar recipe on line and modified it slightly.
Now spanning the good 'ole United States of America, from Virginia to California.

Milk v. Condensed Milk : Something I learned last night
Do NOT fool around with baking recipes. How many times has my mother told me to always make a recipe exactly as it is the first time around. How many times have I not listened to her. Too many times. "You can fool around with cooking, but NOT with baking," she says. Tonight I'm going to a girl's night sleepover with my cousins and I promised to make cookie dough balls. I can't recall who's blog I got them from..I should really start tracking that, so I apologize to whoever's recipe I'm going to post eventually. Last night, my dinner obligation canceled on me due to inclement weather we are having so I thought I'd get a head start and make them. The recipe called for condensed sweetened milk, whwich we did not have so I used milk and added extra brown sugar...bad idea. The two cups of flour that the recipe called for gave the dough a pasty flavor that no amount of sugar could destroy. That was the whole purpose of the SWEETENED condensed milk.
sigh.
So, tonight i'm trying again doing it the right way. I will let you know how it turns out.

cookie failure
alright anne, here you go..except, I'm not posting a recipe..because I failed at it.
So, I pulled the Chocolate Chip and Pumpkin Cookie recipe from Mixing Bowls and Measuring Spoons ( one of the links on the cookin' sisters site)
http://mixingandmeasuring.blogspot.com/search/label/cookies
and I must have somehow screwed them up because they don't taste like much. I was sure they would have more flavor, I think I must have missed an ingredient or a step or something. I wouldn't put it past myself. Although, upon reflection, I used Ghiardelli dark chocolate chocolate chips...and those are a tad bitter and BIG chips. I dont think I baked them long enough becuase the chocolate chips were not very melted. Also, my mom usually uses a melon scoop for transporting the clumps of cookie dough from the bowl to the cookie sheet, but I grabbed the ice cream scoop instead and then, as I continue to scoop, wonder why the heck these clumps are so big! They lookd more like chocolate chip pumpkiin muffin tops without the muffin bottoms! haha. Oh well, I guess the flavor of pumpkin can be subtle? I havn'et been cooking/baking/experimenting much because have been doing a lot of dancing so as to distract myself and not to think about unpleasant recent events. please say a prayer for the healing of broken hearts. Anyways, my next endeavor is also pulled from another linked blog site: Pink Lemonade Cupcakes, so keep your eyes open for that jewel..yum..
