This is what I did in the kitchen yesterday...

Can you tell what it is?

Baby food!

Pears, broccoli, parsnip-carrot blend, and peas.

Yes, my son loves parsnips. We found that out kind of by accident, but it's a veggie...it works.

This should last him about a week. I can't belive how much this kid eats! That cup of pears - that's one meal for him!

Anne, you super mom you. My mom made all mine and my brother's baby food too. She didn't trust the stuff from the jars. Do you make them with water or anything? how do yo get them so liquified?

im having lunch with your hubby on friday!

I heard you guys were lunching out! A treat for him is a break for me (I don't have to make lunch that day;o)

Yeah, I usually just use the water that I boiled the stuff in. Or extra breastmilk if I've got it...

Some stuff like the pears do not need any extra liquid at all...neither do apples, but we just give him unsweetened applesauce from the store...I figure if we eat, so can he!

Good for you! I loved making baby food when the kids were tiny. Do you have a potato ricer? It makes fast mashed potatoes and mushes up just about anything else. Of course, the food processor works great for most veggies. I used to make big batches of stuff and freeze it in ice cubes trays. Then at meal time, just pop a few cubes out of the freezer bag and warm them in the micro.

Barbara - I'd been wanting some sort of food mill for awhile, so I saw a plastic baby one at Kmart and bought it. Oops. I am disappointed.

So mostly I've used my blender. He's getting good enough at eating that I can just mash the potatoes with my fork.

I definitely need to invest in a potato ricer though as this is just my first kid to make baby food for...

Anne,
You can rice more than just potatoes, too. I didn't have one when I was making baby food, but my aunt used to rice carrots and sweet potatoes -- any dense vegetables.
